Abraham was born in Bunia, a town in the Ituri Province in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is the second of four children and lived with his parents and brothers until the war broke out in Ituri in 2023. His father, a lieutenant in the infantry, was rarely home due to the demands of his work, constantly on missions to defend their homeland against rebels and armed groups. Tragically, 2023 marked his last mission, and it was the last time the children would see him. He lost his life during fighting in Bunagana, North Kivu province, when he was ambushed by rebels on the road to the town where he was being transferred.
The news of their father’s death devastated the family, and everyone was heartbroken. As enemy soldiers and rebels advanced, the situation grew increasingly perilous. In an attempt to escape the fighting, Abraham and his brother Jeremy became separated from their mother and two other brothers. To this day, they have not heard any news about them. Jeremy and Abraham remained in a refugee camp for eight months before receiving humanitarian aid that eventually led them to Kinshasa, where they were placed in our orphanage.
