Flower is the second of five children in her family. After the death of their father, she lived with her mother, sisters, and brother in Sake, a city in the Democratic Republic of Congo that has been plagued by rebellion for over three decades. The trouble began at a mining company in Sake, which is located just 20 kilometers from Goma. The rebels attacked the company, killing the workers, including Flower’s father.
The news of her father’s death was devastating for the family, as he was their sole provider. After his passing, their mother struggled to meet their needs, running small businesses to support her children’s education and daily expenses for five years.
In February 2025, the rebels attacked Sake again and invaded Goma, where Flower’s mother was operating her potato business. She lost all her goods in the chaos and fled with her children to a refugee camp in South Kivu. There, humanitarian workers identified their family and arranged for their transfer to Kinshasa, where social services contacted us to provide temporary accommodations for Flower and her sister, Lalies.
Flower aspires to become a lawyer.
