Esperanza’s Journey: From Conflict to a Future of Healing

Ten-year-old Esperanza is a survivor.

Born in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, her childhood was tragically interrupted by armed conflict. After losing her father to the violence, Esperanza and her family were forced to flee their home, eventually seeking safety in a refugee camp. There, they faced the harsh realities of displacement: extreme instability, precarious living conditions, and the heavy weight of trauma.

A New Chapter at Les Enfants de la Grâce

Through a vital partnership between the United Nations and the DRC Ministry of Social Affairs, Esperanza and her siblings were identified for urgent support. Our center, Les Enfants de la Grâce (Children of Grace), stepped in to coordinate their safe passage from the camp to our facility in Kalemie.

Today, Esperanza is no longer just “fleeing”—she is thriving. At our center, she and her siblings receive:

• Safe Accommodation: A stable home away from the threats of conflict.
• Educational Support: Consistent access to school to build a foundation for her career.
• Psychosocial Assistance: Specialized care to help her process and overcome the trauma of war and loss.

Looking Forward: A Dream to Heal Others

Despite everything she has endured, Esperanza’s spirit remains unbroken. She has shared with us her dream of becoming a nurse. By providing her with protection and a stable environment today, we are helping her prepare for a future where she can care for others, just as she is being cared for now.

Our goal is simple: recovery, protection, and a path to a brighter future.
