Joëlle’s Story: Rebuilding a Life of Purpose
At just twelve years old, Joëlle has already faced the unimaginable.
Growing up amidst the conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Joëlle’s life was shattered when she lost her father to the war. In the aftermath, she and her mother struggled to survive, enduring the profound hardships and instability that follow in the wake of violence.
A Global Connection for Local Impact
Joëlle’s path to safety began in a modern way: social media. Through our online presence, the United Nations identified our center as a haven for children in need. In coordination with the DRC Ministry of Social Affairs, we worked together to ensure Joëlle and her siblings could leave the conflict zone behind.
The Children of Grace Centre facilitated their journey across the country to Kinshasa, moving them from the frontlines of war to the safety of our care.
Healing Through Support
Today, Joëlle and her siblings are finally safe. At our center, we provide the essential building blocks for a new life:
- A Secure Home: Peace and stability in our Kinshasa facility.
- Educational Access: The chance to return to the classroom and reclaim her childhood.
- Psychosocial Care: Dedicated support to help her process trauma and find her smile again.
A Future Caretaker
Joëlle’s experiences have not hardened her heart; they have given her a mission. She dreams of becoming a nurse, turning her history of hardship into a future of healing for others. We are committed to standing by her side as she studies, grows, and prepares to give back to her community.
We don’t just provide shelter; we provide a future.
